Diddley Bows originated in the South but one-string instruments can be found worldwide. Porch bands used jugs, spoons, washboards, and washtubs along with diddley bows. They are a fun instrument that anyone can play. There are no chords to learn or rules to follow! Traditionally, the string is struck by your finger or a stick in a rhythmic manner, while changing pitch by using a glass or metal slide. I have turned them into recycled musical art to play or hang on your wall. They make a fascinating conversation piece. You can easily add a Piezo pickup to plug them into an amp.
